James Sheridan’s will, dated December 3, 1837 and proved April 21, 1838, is recorded at the Registrar of Wills Office, Harford County Courthouse in Belair in Liber TSB-5, folio 146 (transcript also at the MHS Library in Baltimore) . In it, James being sick and somewhat weak in body but of sound memory and understanding, bequeaths:.

- $1.00 each to his daughters: Sarah Davis, wife of Jehu Davis; Rachel Sanders (sic), wife of Edward Sanders (sic); Susan How (sic), wife of Thomas How (sic); Ellen McAdow, wife of John McAdow;Rebecca Morris,widow of Lloyd Morris, and no more to each of them; - to my two sons, Asbury and Richard, the residue of my property, reserving to my wife Elizabeth the entire use and control during her life, etc.
Wife E lizabeth named sole executrix . Witnesses: Henry G. Watters and William Ewing.

Note; widow Elizabeth was later residing in her son Richard’s household in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Harford Co..
