There is a chance that this David is not the father of Elizabeth Hays, but her brother, as explained further in the record for his son. On pages 640-647, Armstrong County, Pa., Her People, Past and Present, J.H. Beers & Co., 1914, we read that Elizabeth and her family visited her brother David in about 1822, in Baltimore, Md., and that her brother was a wholesale grocer, which was certainly true of the son vrom at least 1830 on. Since there are no immigration, naturalisation or census records for a father David, while we do have naturalisation papers for the son, it seems likely that David Jr. came alone and despite a nearly 20 year age difference with his sister, that he is the brother and not this David. If he is the father of both David Jr and Elizabeth/Bettie, his first name of David is also a working assumption, based on naming patterns in the family, but is not proven.
