[S96] Interments in the Historic Congressional Cemetery
Broom. On Saturday morning, 14th November, 1840, Lieut. Col. Chas. R. Broom, of the U.S. Marine
Corps, in the 46th year of his age, having been a member of the Corps upwards of 27 years. His
funeral was attended to the Congress burying ground on Sunday afternoon by his numerous
friends. Military honors were performed by the Washington Light Infantry, under the command of
Capt. R. France.
